General Race Information
DATE, TIME & PLACE: Sunday, November 1, 2009. Half Marathon at 8:00 am & 5K at 8:10 am at the Battleship North Carolina. Half Marathon Walker Start is 7:00 AM.
ENTRY FEES: Half Marathon: $55 before October 5th, late fee $60, and $65 on race day. 5K is $25 before October 5th, late fee $30. REFUNDS: 50% refund of race fee on request. No Refunds after October 1st.
All Runners in both races receive a free ticket to tour the Battleship North Carolina.
First 1,200 runners registered in the Half Marathon receive a free custom made Race Pin.
RACE DAY REGISTRATION - 6:00 AM - 7:30 AM IF the race is not closed out at the Battleship in the Auditorium. Take the ramp located to the right of the steps leading up to the main entrance. Go in the side door and register inside the auditorium.
FINISHER MEDALS: Custom made Finisher Medals for the Half Marathon.
CHIP TIMING: Brunswick Timing will provide chip timing services. Go to http://wilmingtonroadrunners.org/raceforms/D_Tag_Instructions.pdf for instructions on how to attach the chip timing tag. Your Timing Tag will be attached to your number when you pick up your packet. FOR THE RACE, THE TIMING TAG GOES ON YOUR SHOE LACE. You do not need to return your timing tag. It is your's to keep.
COURSE: USAT&F certified (NC-0651-PH) Half Marathon. The Bay Six Battleship 5K is USATF certified now (NC-08075-PH). Three hour time limit for half-marathon. Four hour time limit for Walkers. New STATE RECORDS in 2007 - Ben Sterett (14-15M) 1:20:07 - Richard Stotler (65-69M) 1:28:09 State Records - Kathy Wides (50-54) 1:30:36, the late (and missed) Gunnery Sargeant Lee Cooper (70-74) 1:46:10.
SATURDAY EXPO & PACKET PICKUP: At the Battleship October 31st from 12:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Race day registration AT THE BATTLESHIP from 6:00 am to 7:30 am SHARP. Note increased race day registration fee. No t-shirt Size exchange. We order based on what you tell us. A friend may pick up your race packet, but they must show ID and sign for your packet.
WALKERS: Be sure to register as a walker on the entry form or online entry. Walker Start at 7:00 am. There is a 4-hour time limit for walkers (Must finish by 11:00 AM) Walker Safety: Course control volunteers will be in place at 7:00 AM this year but you will have to know the course and be Very Careful of traffic (at all times, of course) since you will be walking for the first 2.5 miles on highways with 55mph speed limits and in dawn type of light.
RACE AWARDS: Half Marathon: Open, Masters, and Grand Masters M/F Winners receive Asics running shoes courtesy of Omega Sports. Top three M/F Open, Masters, Grand Masters & Military (Active Duty and Retired) receive awards (but not shoes), as well as the top three M/F in 5-year age groups from 1-17, 18-24, to 70+.
5K Awards: M/F Open, Masters, and Grand Masters Winners receive New Balance running shoes courtesy of New Balance of Wilmington. Age Group awards 3-deep M/F Open, Masters, Grand Masters, & 5-year age groups 1-10, 11-13, 14 - 15, 16-19, 20-24... to 70+.
Middle of the Pack: (Local Runners Only) M/F in half marathon AND 5K get 1-year memberships to Gold's Gym. NOTE: There is only one male and one female Mid-Pack award winner in each race. A total of two Mid-Pack awards will be given out in each race. The mid-pack award winner is picked by the Race Director. Golds Gym has nothing to do with the selection process. Contact the Race Director if you have issues with the Mid-Pack award, not Golds Gym.
WATER STATIONS: 6 water stops (approximately 2 mile intervals) staffed by Omega Sports, Boy Scouts Wilmington, Pharmaceutical Product Development - PPD, Wilmington Athletic Club, Christy Franklin & Rose Martin with UNCW Teaching Fellows assistance.
BATHROOMS/PORTA JOHNS - Bathrooms available at the Hilton Hotel at the 3-mile spoint. Porta Johns on the course at the 5-mile point, the 8.7 mile point, and the 10.4-mile point.
POST RACE REFRESHMENTS: will be provided by Budweiser, The Bagel Basket, Holden Brothers Farm Market, and Domino's Pizza. Runner's food tent staffed by Cape Fear Literacy Council volunteers. Spectator Food tent statted by the Vietnam Veterans of America - Chapter 885.
BEER: (2) beer tickets will be attached to the race number each over age (21) runner when you pick up your packet. After using your tickets each beer costs $2. Spectators may purchase beer for $2. Sorry but our beer is not donated this year.
NOTE: Runner's food is for runners only at the food tent. Spectator refreshments are available for a very reasonable fee at the small trailer seperate from the food tent.
LODGING: (see Accommodation Page) The Hilton Hotel (www.wilmingtonhilton.com) is Race HQ and has discount rooms, double occupancy at $129 per night during race weekend, Friday and Saturday night. Call 910-763-5900. When the 50-room block that we have reserved are filled, the rate will increase to $199 and up, depending on availability. The Hilton is Race HQ and all transportation will depart from the Hilton. Reserve your room by October 10th to recieve or while 50-room block lasts. The Inn Keeper 5345 Market Street (910) 799-4292 has a $65 discount rate with Race Day breakfast at 5:15 AM and 2:00 PM late check out. Very good hotel for a reasonable rate and good perks for runners. The Country Inn & Suites will provide discount rooms for $79 & $89 with early breakfast on race morning and late checkout after the race - very nice hotel. Hampton Inn Medical Park offers discount rooms for $89 and $99 and has a free continental breakfast race morning. (910) 796-8881)
PARKING: You MUST park in designated parking spaces at the Battleship. Arrive early and follow the attendant's directions. BATTLESHIP ACCESS ROAD WILL CLOSE AT 7:15 AM SHARP. No exceptions. When the parking lot is full everyone will be turned away no matter the time, sopark for free downtown on Sunday and take the River Taxi or Trollies. WPD will be at the Battleship and parking tickets will be issued, as well as cars being towed at owner's expense. We will maintain the integrity of our racecourse and the safety of our runners at all costs.
PARK FREE DOWNTOWN ON SUNDAY IN METERED SPACES or PARK FREE IN THE CITY PARKING DECK ON 2nd STREET BETWEEN PRINCESS ST AND CHESTNUT ST.
RIVER TAXI & SHUTTLE BUSES: Two River Taxi Boats will be in service Race morning. Park free downtown in the municipal parking decks or on the street and take the River Taxi to the Battleship on race morning. Depart just south of the Hilton on Water Street. All ticket holders will go first if there is a line, so arrive early to take the boat. If spectators or fans want to ride the boat, and there is a line, all runners will go first. There will be Trolley Buses as well as boats departing from 6:00 AM - 1:00 PM. In addition, shuttle buses will depart from the Hilton from 6:00 - 7:30 am and return 9:30 AM until 1:00 PM.
TROPHY & T-SHIRT MAILING: Trophies will be mailed for a $10.00 mailing fee. Contact the Race Director within two weeks after the race. AFTER NOVEMBER 13th, NO AWARDS WILL BE MAILED and the 2009 race will be over. . FOR MORE INFORMATION: email edfore7628@bellsouth.net, or call (910) 398-5539
